Re: [IIM] Thank you Ravi

To list "India Managers",

On this issue, from material in public domain,

It is clear Prof. Das was never arrested, and in fact the misleading news report "Ex-prof faces arrest" was seemingly planted by IIMA in the local ABD edition of ToI of 08.August.2012 to exert pressure on Das to get him to withdraw his Petition in the Guj High Court on which the Court had asked the IIMA to reconduct its inquiry - by independent persons under the court's supervision - after the earlier bogus enquiry report (described as "fact finding committee") carried out by 2 rubber stamp IIMA professors Errol D'souza and Tathagata Bandyopadhyay, was trashed in the High Court.

In Sep 2012 the Court apparently issued fresh notice to IIMA, and this year the Court while noting that there was hardly anything on the record to show that Prof Dass had done the alleged offence, said that (unfortunately) the law/investigative process could not be hurried to allow the IIMA's complaint against Dass to be quashed.

Since ToI didn't realise the matter was sub-judice they later had to withdraw /amend most of their story. For instance their earlier claim that an "FIR was registered" by CAO Manoj Bhat was amended to "A complaint was registered" (nowadays even trivial complaints are "registered" by police in their dak diary, and for criminal matters "complaints" are made to a Magistrate under CrPC not to the police).

The IIMA claims in that news story that Anil Sharma and S.Vaibhavi are non-existent persons / fake email accounts opened from Rajanish Dass's IP address has now also been comprehensively trashed, and HENCE the corresponding IIMA final inquiry report on their specific complaints of "serious plagiarism" by Prof Rekha Jain, Prof Ajay Pandey, Prof G.Raghuram, Prof Sebastian Morris etc ought to be in public domain.

In fact Prof Sebastian Morris is now left with egg on his face because the plagiarism complainants have turned out to be actual persons who may very well turn out to be interested in how the IIM's selection process, and conducting the CAT exams, is capable of being rigged, and he has shamelessly back-tracked from his earlier public statement that the enquiry report should be made public, and Prof Morris can very well put his own copy in the public space if he wants to do the right thing.

So the REAL ISSUES are :

A) What is IIMA hiding in that 3 member FINAL REPORT into Anil Sharma's and Vaibhavi's complaint of "serious plagiarism" by those 4 IIMA profs, how many of them were "guilty" and

B) Was Prof. Rekha Jain made a member of IIMA Board of Governors only because her plagiarism was perhaps so blatantly evident that she had to be kicked upstairs just before the new Director joined?

Dear Ravi,   Thanks for your email and your kind words.   Yes, it was shocking indeed!   I hope that you can also fathom how traumatic and irreversibly damaging the whole fiasco has been for my family members, and me especially because the whole thing was fabricated by a coterie of unethical, nepotistic and promiscuous people busy to save their ghastly interests.   Albeit, you are only aware of what came out in the newspaper and may not be aware as to what extent they could have persuaded damaging my reputation where my research partners, heads of various institutes, research agencies and clients had been intimated with false and fabricated information along with putting up a public notice on the institute website to ensure that I be hated and that my professional career be finished once and for all. I am told that one of the immediate former Deans of the institute even took the pain of going to London and meeting the administration of one my research collaborators there to ensure that they also sever all ties with me.   I have very high regards for my institute and its founders, especially as they dreamt of creating this iconic institute, which has produced great thought leaders and institution builders not only for our nation, but also globally. I also have very high regards for a large number of the faculty members and non teaching staff of my institute as we had always tried to put the need for the institute and the students above personal agenda ~ leading to huge sacrifices on family and personal fronts.   However, things got constantly worsened in the immediate past due to the gluttony of a small group of people holding positions of power or access to such power centers and their uncouth means for achieving what they wanted at the cost of life and career of a plethora of teaching and non teaching staff at the institute.   It is indeed very saddening to see the current state of affairs and the way candor, merit and pragmatism – perhaps the very basic building blocks of an iconic global academic institute – are constantly decaying and being compromised.     At times, life throws at you only binary options. In my case, for example, I was left only with two choices ~ either I crumble under the heavy pressure (in the name of the institute) of a coterie of people who, holding positions of power, had decided to ruin my life and career or I survive and try to turn around. The first option was obvious against the financial and social muscle power of that coterie in the name of the institute.   But, I chose the later.   Going by what Tagore had said, "Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high", I decided to stay put in Ahmedabad as I have done nothing wrong and have always been with truth ~ hence there was no reason for running away from this place. I decided to stay put and wait till I get my justified honor back. I am sure that truth will come out one day, may be slowly but surely!   I am sure that people like you, supporting truth, will be there beside the cause.
With warm regards,
Rajanish Dass
